Davis wins the 2015 HR Title

Chris Davis hit two homers on the last day of the season to give him the 2015 home run title. A free agent now he may have played his last game with the Orioles.

Nelson Cruz lead the race most of the season but faded to second because of a groin injury.
Japhet Amador lead all minor leagues with 41 homers ( next closest had 32). He had the highest per game Avg. and had the highest 162 game PHR.

It's looks like a two horse race turning for home

J. Amatory is watching his lead disappear, with no games left this 60-1 shot will probably run out of the top 10, but today he still leads with 41 homers.

C. Davis is first MLB player to hit 40 homers this year. With 28 games left to play he has good chance to win the HR title. 15-1 were his presence odds.
Has he been drug tested lately ?

N. Cruz right on the heels of Davis has 39 home runs with 27 games left. His preseason odds were 10-1.

These two have a three homer lead over the rest of the field and will be neck and neck down the stretch.

With less than 60 games left we have a wide open race.

Japheth Amador of the AAA Mexican League is the first player to hit 40 homers this year. There is only 7 games left to play but if they were playing a 162 game season his PHR would be 64 and he would become the next 60 homers club member.

Here are the top PHR leaders.

PHR..player..team.....HR..odds
48.....M. Trout..LAA..32....9-1
46.....N. Cruz...SEA..31....10-1
46.....A. Pujols.LAA..31.....12-1
43.....J. Amador.MEX.40....60-1

36....J. Bautista..TOR..24...8-1
Bautista was the pre-season favorite and is now in 14th place
And Angles player still has a very good chance of winning the HR Title.

PHR Standings as of July 24, 2015

PHR..HR..GL..Player/League
51.....27...67..G. Stanton/N

47.....28...67..M. Trout/A
46.....27...67..J. Martinez/A
43.....35...21..J. Amador/Mex

Japhet Amador still leads all of Organized Baseball with 35 longballers, but only has 21 games left. His PHR if adjusted for 162 game season would be 62 making him a real contender for the 60 homers club. Amador leads all MiLB by 9 homers and will win the MiLB HR title.
Stanton still has the highest per-game-Avg. and if he can start playing every day would win the HR title.
I see this race going down to the wire and anyone with 25 or more homers now are in that race.

PHR Standings at the All Star Break.

The 2015 All Star Game is tonight. My home town team will have three players on the AL roster tonight and find the Angles in first place in the ALW. Pujols and Trout are two of seven players that will be battling it out to win the Home Run Title.
Very hard to make the 60 Homers Club without 33 homers by the All Star Game so I am calling it now that no one will hit 60 this year.

All players with 20 or more homers are listed. Players are listed by PHR.

HOME RUN STANDINGS as of 6/30/15

The three players with 25 or more Homers are:

G. Stanton - PHR 58, 27 HRs with 85 games left to play. National League.

J. Amatory- PHR 44, 27 HRs with 42 games left to play. Mexican League.

T. Frazier- PHR 54, 25 HRs with 87 games left to play. National League.

A player needs 33 home runs by th All Star break to have any real shot at hitting 60 homers, just don't see it happening this year.

Nelson Cruz is only player still on track to join 60 Homers Club. It's really early in the season to have to say ONLY one player is on track to hit 60 homers this year. Cruz won't keep up his HR pace forever, but his PHR is at 72
For me it is still to soon to say no one will hit 60 this year. Maybe next week.

Craig Biggio received 454 votes (82.7%) this was his first time on ballot. In a 20 year career he hit 291 homers, had 1175 RBIs and BA of .281.

Some members of the Juice-IN-THE-ARM Gang also got some votes:
Player.........................votes..%...YOB
Roger Clemens...........206...37.5...3
Barry Bonds................202..36.8....3
Mark McGwire..............55...10.......9
Sammy Sosa................36....6.6.....3

Players need 75% of the vote and can only remain on the ballot for 10 years as long as they get least 5% of the vote the previous year. Bonds has one year left to make it and Sosa barely held on with 6.6%. These juicers will never get in, let's hope.

World Series prediction

Tonight game one of the 2014 WS will be played. SF (88-74) and KC (89-73) both made it to the Fall Classic as wildcard teams with almost the same w/l record.
Don't look for a lot of longballs to be hit in this series, only B.Posey of SF made the top 50 home run hitters this year.
60 Homers Club pick to win WS
        SF
The top five starters when adjusted for a 162 game season hit for a total of 112 homers and 395 RBIs.
        KC
Top five starters when adjusted for a 162 game season hit for a total of 76 home runs and 357 RBIs
60 homers Club will pick SF to win the WS with the following odds.

Win in No. of games
SF 4  3-1
SF 5. 8-5
SF 6  3-1
SF 7  4-1
KC 4 10-1
KC 5 8-1
KC 6 6-1
KC 7 9-2

I think SF will take it in 5
In all of baseball these may be the two worst teams ever to play for a world championship.

Home Run Standings as of 09/13/2014

Note: this year Joey Gallo of Las Vegas NV leads all players sofar with 42 homers, but with two teams so his total will not count for HR title.
Joey hit 21 homers for Myrtle Beach of the A. Adv. Carolina League in 58 games and then he was traded to the Frisco Roughriders of the AA Texas League whose parent club is the Texas Rangers.
I'm still waiting for someone to hit 40 HRs in MLB.

Here are the players with 35 or more Homers:
N. Cruz. 39 Amr.
M. Olson 37 Calif.
G. Stanton 37 Nat. May be out for season.
C. Carter 36 Nat.
S. Moya 35 Eastern
Only Cruz and Carter have games left to play on the list.

Sunday, September 07, 2014

20 MLB games left, the race to 40 HRs

Top five home run leaders.

N. Cruz  39
M. Olson. 37
C. Carter. 36
G. Stanton. 36
S. Moya. 35

I see C. Carter is making a strong late bid to repeat as Home Run Title Holder.  I say first one to hit 40 wins title.

    Mexican league- AAA

2. G. Stanton PHR 41.  Odds 4-1
       32 homers in 124 games. 38 left

3. N. Cruz  PHR 41.  Odds 20-1

     Calif. League - AA

6. S. Moya - PHR 34  Odds 80-1
    30 homers in 120 games. 17 left
    Eastern League - A. Adv.

Closest race in 15 years with the minor leagues still in the running with less than 40 games to go. Very real chance that 40 home runs will not happen this year.

If the MLB playoffs were to start today...

My team the LA Angels took over first place in the ALW today. Here are the teams with the best win percentage;
LAA...595 ALW
OAK..593 ALW
BAL..570 ALE
WAS..562 NLE
LAD...560 NLW
MIL....556 NLC
KC.....549 ALC
DET...545 ALC
STL...533 NLC

Play off picture would look like this:

  AL
LAA vs KC
OAK vs BAL

NL
WSH vs STL
LAD vs MIL

Next closest wild card is DET in the AL, but really has no chance.
If Angles make playoffs and are 3-1 to win the WS, I'm going to Vegas baby!

Four at 25 homers

There's a four way tie at 25

We're just past the halfway point of the 2014 season and we have four players with 25 home runs.  J. Abreu who earlier spent two weeks on the DL has come back better than ever and is on track to win the HR title.
The four players with 25 homers are:

          JOSE ABREU.   # 79 / 1B
Plays for the CWS who have 80 games left to play. He has played in 68 games and has a PHR of 54.411

          jOHN LINDSEY.  # 46 / 1B
Plays for Diables Rojos Del Mexico who have 71 games left play. He has played in 64 games and has a PHR of 52.307

          NELSON CRUZ. # 23 / L
Plays for the Baltimore Orioles who have 82 games left to play. He has played in 79 games and has a PHR of 50.949

          EDWIN ENCARNACION  # 10 / 1B
Plays for the Toronto Blue Jays who have 71 games left to play. He has played in 82 games and has a PHR of 49.087

This is the tightest race we have had in ten years with no clear leader, but I look for ABREU to take the lead after the All Star break.

In the Belmont I will bet aginst the 3-5 California Chrome ( he is not bred for 1 1/2 miles) and hope he runs out. I only bet $24 this race, a $1 trifecta box:
Ride on Curlin. 5-1
wicked Strong. 9-1
Samara at. 20-1
General a Rod. 20-1

If CC wins I will have a $24 souvenir, if he runs out I may have a huge payday.

PHRs are at there lowest in years. No one will hit 60 homers this year. Only two players have PHRs of 50 and history tells us that means no one will hit 50 this year. This has sofar been a very bad year for home run totals. Sounds like drug testing works.

N. Arenado streak and PHR standings

Nolan James Arenado streak now at 28, only a dozen games to go to pass join Frosty Kennedy on the 40 consecutive game hitting list. Frosty was the 19th player to hit in fourty consecutive games (1953). He since has dropped to 23rd on the list. Look for Frosty's name to once again be in the news if Arenado can make it to 40.
Nolan was born in Newport Beach, CA. And went to El Toro H.S. He was a 2nd round draft pick by Colorado Rockies in 2009.
