IN THE SECOND GAME HE HAD A SO/BB/FLY OUT/SINGLE/ AND HIT HIS 60TH HOMER ON HIS LAST AT BAT OF THE SEASON TO PUT HIM INTO THE RECORD BOOKS OF BEING ONLY THE 10TH PLAYER AT THE TIME TO EVER HIT 60 OR MORE IN A SEASON IN ORG. BASEBALL. HIS STATS ARE ON DISPLAY IN COOPERS TOWN IN THE BABE RUTH WING OF THE HALL OF FAME.

ROGER MARIS SET THE MLB MARK OF 61 IN 1961 TO BECOME THE 11 PLAYER TO DO IT AND THAT RECORD STOOD ABOUT 40 YEARS UNTIL THE JUICE IN THE ARM GANG SHOWED UP AND DID IT FIVE TIMES IN JUST A FEW YEARS. I WAS VERY GLAD TO SEE MLB TAKING THE ACTION IT DID THIS MONTH WITH THE DRUGI ES.

Former local player ‘Frosty’ remembered,

A baseball player with Plainview ties has made a list of baseball greats.
Forrest "Frosty" Kennedy, who played for Plainview's minor league team in the 1950s, was included on Terry Cannon's list of All-Time Southland Baseball All-Stars.

The story appears on the Los Angeles Times' Web site, www.latimes.com.

Cannon is the executive director of the Baseball Reliquary, which celebrates pioneers and trailblazers, and often emphasizes cultural contributions made by ballplayers over statistical accomplishments. Therefore, his list of all-stars includes both well-known and obscure figures.
Cannon's information on Kennedy, who was born in Los Angeles, says he "never played in the major leagues, but was considered by many to be the Babe Ruth of the minor leagues.

"He hit an astounding 60 home runs for Plainview, Texas, in the Southwestern League in 1956. No one in the majors has hit .400 since Ted Williams in 1941; Kennedy hit .410 at Riverside in the Sunset League in 1949 and .410 at Plainview in 1953.

"Kennedy had a few chances to go up to the bigs, but he opted to stay in the minors because he was making decent money and ‘in the little towns where I played, the people always wanted to buy me dinner, buy me drinks. I made out real well right where I was at.' "

CURTIS GRANDERSON- NYY

Hit a career high of 43 homers last year and hit 41 in 2011, he keeps improving.

ADAM DUNN- CWS

He hit 41 home runs last year and had a career high of 46 in 2004.  In 13 years in MLB Dunn has hit 40 or more home runs 6 times and hit 38 twice. He has 406 career home runs.

EDWIN ENCARNACION- TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Hit a season high of 42 for the Blue Jays last year.

RYAN BRAUN- MIL. BREWERS

He had a career high of 41 HR'S last year.

California's Home Run title continders

The following three players from S. Calif. I think will have a real shot at the title if they stay healthy and get a lot of playing time ( you can't hit homers sitting on the bench.

JOSH HAMILTON- LAA
  Played for Texas last year and hit a season high for himself of 43 home runs.

MATT KEMP- LAD

   Led all players with 23 homers last year before being sideline with injury's, only played in 106 games. Had a career high of 39 homers in 2011.

MARK TRUMBO- LAA

  Won the Pacific Coast League and the MiLB title with a career high 36 homers in 2010. Hit 29 homers in 2011 and 32 homers 2012, both 144 game seasons. Look for Mark to have a very big year in 2013.

Please let me know if you think of any other players that have a real chance of winning the Home Run title this year.

Bauman was a minor league slugger who batted .337 and collected 337 home runs and 1057 RBI in 1019 games. First signed by the Braves, he lost four years to WWII, and held out from 1949-51. He won four HR titles in the nine years he played, but only once played above Class A. After hitting 103 HR for Artesia in 1952-53, he won the Longhorn League (Class C) triple crown by batting .400 with 72 HR and 224 RBI for the Roswell Rockets in 1954. The 72 HR and .916 slugging average he achieved that season are all-time pro records.



3 MARK MCGWIRE 70

Since he retired, McGwire has kept a low profile. His admission that he used the supplement androstenedione has led to speculation that he also took steroids. Although McGwire had repeatedly denied using illegal performance-enhancing drugs, he refused to do so under oath when he appeared before the House Government Reform Committee on March 17, 2005. As McGwire said in his opening statement, "Asking me or any other player to answer questions about who took steroids in front of television cameras will not solve the problem. If a player answers 'No,' he simply will not be believed; if he answers 'Yes,' he risks public scorn and endless government investigations." When asked if he was asserting his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself, McGwire said: "I'm not here to talk about the past. I'm here to be positive about this subject."

He made a name for himself in the minor leagues, where he became the first player ever to hit 60 or more home runs twice in a professional career: 63 in 1930, and 69 in 1933.

In 1948, Crues went on a rampage through the dusty and windswept ballparks of the Southwest, driving in 254 runs in just 140 games, dwarfing the major league record of 191 RBI set by Hack Wilson with the Cubs in 1930. Playing for the Amarillo Gold Sox of the class C West Texas-New Mexico League, Crues drove in almost two runs per game that summer. Two! The closest anyone ever came to his total was former teammate Joe Bauman who drove in 224 one season. Tony Lazzeri, who set the old record with 222, had to play in 197 games in 1925 to reach that mark at Salt Lake City in the Pacific Coast League. As the 21st century dawned, it seemed possible that Crues' RBI record will be one of the rare ones never to be broken. Bob tied Hauser's record of 69 with two games left in the season. His try for the 70th drew a record crowd of 4,851 for a season-ending Labor Day doubleheader with Lubbock. Ironically, Secory, the umpire who might have cost him a home run in Abilene, was working behind the plate

Bob Lennon hit 64 home runs for the Southern Association Nashville Vols in 1954, but his most memorable homer came on April 30, 1957, when he was playing for the Chicago Cubs. "It was what I had dreamed about," he recalled in a 1993 interview. He hit it in Ebbets Field, where he had rooted for the Dodgers as a boy. It was his only major league home run.

12  FROSTY KENNEDY 60

Kennedy hit 60 home runs for Plainview (Texas) of the Class B Southwestern League in 1956, accomplishing this feat in only 144 games. He hit .327 that year, with 184 RBIs and 151 runs scored.


He is also one of the few men in baseball history to hit over .400 twice. He hit .411 for Riverside of the class C sunset League in 1949, and .410 for Plainview when that city fielded a team in the West Texas-New Mexico League in 1953.

Kennedy had a 40-game hitting streak for Plainview in 1953, part of a remarkable stretch which saw him hit safely in 95 of his final 100 games that season.


13 TONY LAZZERI 60

Lazzeri was a prominent member of the 1927 Yankees' "Murderers' Row" lineup and the second baseman on five World Championship Yankee clubs. He had seven 100-RBI seasons and four times hit as many as 18 home runs. His excellent glove, driving leadership, and superior baseball instincts made him the hero of Italian-Americans, as their first superstar . He was known as "the quiet man of the Yankees." Though an epileptic, he never had an on-the-field seizure in his 12 Yankee seasons.

The Juice in the Arm gang, what to do.

OK long ball fans, just a few more weeks before some players start showing up for spring camps. The really big news is that the JUICE IN THE ARM GANG did not make the HOF.  I think that Berry, Sammy and Mark will never make membership into the Hall as long as the voting sports writers have a memory of the juicing scandal, Lance has admitted to doing the same thing and he was striped of all his titles. I believe most of America considers juicing as cheating.  Non of the three got close to the 75% of votes need for membership into the Hall of Fame, in fact non got even 40%. The newest member of the juice in the vain gang is Alex (won the HR title a few years back with 54). He can look forward to never being a member of the HOF.

The last player to make the 60 homers club before the JITV gang took over was Rodger Maris, remember the call '61 in 61', that was a 38 year span before Mark did it. The last Pro Player to hit 60 before Roger was my father Forrest Edward Kennedy (Frosty) in 1956, for 5 years he was number 10 on the 60 homers list until Maris dropped him to number 11. So from 1927 (Babe Ruth) until 1961(Maris) only 11 men had hit 60 or more homers in one season, and it was done 12 times (Joe Hauser did it twice) in a 62 year span.

Then between 1998 and 2001 it was done six times by only three men. Did we really need drug testing to know that something was up?

You can't really take a way a home run title (Sammy Sosa hit 60 three times, but never won the title) but something should be done about the stats.

I would like hear yor comments on this subject and any thoughts on what organized baseball should do, if anything on this matter.
